The 5th Annual Power of Literacy Luncheon: Beyond the Pearls: Wit, Wisdom and Wonder of Barbara Bush, chaired by Betty Hrncir and Sidney Faust, was held as a virtual event. The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s event focused on the importance of reading in our community and raised more than $280,000 for the Foundation’s Ladies for Literacy Guild’s local literacy efforts. The fête included touching tales by those who knew and loved Mrs. Bush. The emcee was Channel 13 news anchor Melanie Lawson. Supporters watched the program from their homes while enjoying lunch from Culinaire. Program speakers included Maria and Neil Bush, Doro Bush Koch, Jenna Bush Hager, Andrew Hill Card Jr., David and Elizabeth Demarest, Robert M. Gates, Jay Leno, Reba McEntire, John Meacham, Sichan Siv., the Rev. Dr. Russ Levenson Jr., Sidney Faust, Dolly Parton, Lee Greenwood, Betty Hrncir and Trish Morille.
